The FPS Finance, in collaboration with the ITAA, has announced a strategic postponement of the VAT chain’s rollout. This decision is not merely a delay but a calculated move to ensure a well-prepared and gradual transition for professionals—especially accountants and tax advisors—who need time to adapt.
The deferral also allows the sector to focus on the implementation of electronic invoicing, another major reform. Meanwhile, the administration and users will benefit from additional time to technically and functionally test the VAT chain, which is considered one of the most significant changes to Belgium’s VAT system since its inception.
A revised timeline is being developed jointly with the ITAA and will be communicated once finalized. Importantly, the new VAT account number will not be activated after 1 October 2025. Until further notice, payments for periodic VAT returns must continue to use the existing account number: BE22 6792 0030 0047.
