- Progressive Rollout of EES: The European Commission announced that the Entry/Exit System (EES) will be implemented gradually over six months, starting October 12, 2025, following a provisional agreement by the European Council and Parliament.
- Purpose of the EES: The EES aims to enhance border management and improve efficiency in controls at the EU’s external borders, addressing irregular migration and facilitating the entry and exit of legitimate non-EU travelers for short stays.
- Implementation Details: The system will register non-EU citizens’ entries and exits from the Schengen Area, including biometric data, replacing the manual passport stamping process and applying to all non-EU nationals for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
