Jordan’s E-Invoicing Phase 2: Mandatory Compliance Begins April 1, 2025

  • ISTD Guidance and Support: The Income and Sales Tax Department (ISTD) is urging VAT-registered businesses to register and integrate their systems with JoFotara promptly, emphasizing the availability of technical support to assist in the transition and ensure compliance with the new regulations.

Jordan Advances Tax Digitization: Second Phase of Electronic Invoicing with JoFotara

  • Expansion of Electronic Invoicing: Jordan is enhancing its electronic invoicing system, JoFotara, under the leadership of the Income and Sales Tax Department (ISTD) and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship (MDEE), aimed at improving transaction data collection and transparency in sales and purchases.
  • Mandatory Compliance and Features: As of April 1, 2025, all individuals and businesses in Jordan must issue original electronic invoices through the JoFotara system or integrated platforms to qualify for tax deductions. Invoices must include a unique QR code issued by the ISTD to verify proper registration.
  • Impact and Objectives: The initiative applies to all VAT-registered entities and public sector suppliers in B2G transactions, with non-compliance resulting in fines and invalid VAT deductions. The JoFotara system aims to prevent tax fraud, reduce costs, enhance administrative efficiency, and promote transparency in commercial relationships.
