- The European Commission has initiated infringement procedures against France and Cyprus for failing to deploy required customs electronic systems by the 31 December 2023 deadline under the Union Customs Code and UCC Work Programme.
- Both countries failed to implement the Temporary Storage system and National Import System; France also failed to deploy the Automated Export System, all of which are vital for electronic customs declarations, revenue collection, and enforcement of EU import/export rules.
- The Commission has sent letters of formal notice, giving France and Cyprus two months to respond; otherwise, it may escalate the case by issuing a reasoned opinion.
