The Simplification Council’s proposal to allow VAT deductions on light trucks is welcome, but more is needed. The right to deduct VAT is central to the taxation of value added at every stage, so that the tax can be passed on to the consumer and become neutral for companies. Today’s ban on car VAT is a harmful deviation that means that companies’ costs increase by up to 25%.
