- The Federal Government has launched the Merchant Buyer Solution (MBS), an electronic invoicing platform aimed at modernizing fiscal processes and enhancing transparency in tax management across Nigeria, as announced during the inauguration of the National Electronic Invoicing initiative by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
- The MBS is designed to standardize invoice creation and exchange within the public and private sectors, incorporating elements such as identity verification and data exchange under the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) framework, with a pilot program currently focused on large taxpayers to ensure effective feedback before wider implementation.
- The initiative, championed by FIRS leadership, aims to provide real-time visibility into business transactions, improve compliance, enhance efficiency, and boost national revenue, with the newly inaugurated E-Invoice Inter-Agency Steering Committee tasked with high-level guidance and stakeholder coordination to ensure the project’s success.
