Foreign tourists can now enjoy value-added tax (VAT) refunds on their purchases in the Philippines, following the official release of the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No. 12079, or the VAT Refund for Non-Resident Tourists Act.
According to the Department of Finance, non-resident tourists or foreign passport holders can apply for a VAT refund on locally purchased goods from accredited stores, provided the total purchase amounts to at least PHP3,000 (US$52), as reported by Philstar.
