The government is still looking for an alternative that should cover the VAT loss of € 1.2 billion. Recently, an increase in the general VAT rate from 21% to 21.4% was proposed.
There was a negative response from both the business community and the House. A proposal to abolish the low VAT rate for certain categories does not have to count on much support either.
