The Dutch government is considering increasing the high VAT rate (21%) to generate additional revenue. The increase is expected to generate approximately 1.3 billion euros. Another option considered was introducing a uniform VAT rate of 17-18%, eliminating the current multiple rates of 0%, 9%, and 21%. The government will present a menu of options to the Tweede Kamer (Dutch parliament) next week.
