The Dutch Ministry of Finance has launched a public consultation on a draft bill for the implementation of new reporting and due diligence obligations for crypto-asset service providers as per Council Directive (EU) 2023/2226 of 17 October 2023 (DAC8). Approved by the European Council in October 2023, DAC8 introduces new reporting and exchange of information rules concerning crypto-asset transactions. EU Member States need to adopt and publish the laws, regulations, and administrative provisions necessary to comply with DAC8 by 31 December 2025, and must generally apply the provisions from 1 January 2026, although certain provisions will not be applied until 1 January 2028. The consultation ends on 21 November 2024.
