- Mandatory B2G E-Invoicing: E-invoicing is mandatory for federal agencies in the USA for “appropriate federal procurements” since 2018, as directed by the US Office of Management and Budget (OMB). However, there is no e-invoicing requirement at the state level, although some states like California are adopting it voluntarily.
- B2B E-Invoicing Status: There is currently no mandate for B2B e-invoicing in the USA, and there are no plans to introduce such a mandate in the near future. Businesses can continue to use paper-based invoices, PDFs, or EDI formats like ANSI X12 for their invoicing needs.
- Strategic Developments and Benefits: The introduction of the Digital Business Networks Alliance (DBNA), a Peppol-like network developed in collaboration with the US Federal Reserve, aims to modernize payment systems and improve efficiency. The joint EU-US declaration in April 2024 highlights increased collaboration and interoperability in e-invoicing, reflecting growing government interest due to the significant benefits of e-invoicing, such as enhanced efficiency, transparency, and real-time data access.
