- The GST Council in India has proposed the introduction of a pilot program for Business-to-Consumer (B2C) e-invoicing, which is expected to bring various advantages for the retail sector.
- The recommendation comes after the success of the earlier Business-to-Business (B2B) e-invoicing initiative and aims to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and promote environmental sustainability.
- The pilot program will be rolled out voluntarily in specific states and sectors, allowing customers to verify invoice reporting in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) returns. E-invoicing in India has been progressively implemented based on business turnover, with different thresholds triggering the mandate.
