Many Dutch people, 74 percent, do not think the new government’s plan to increase VAT on paid sports from 9 percent to 21 percent is a good idea and think that this will have a negative impact on public health. More than a third of the Dutch expect that the VAT increase will affect their own sports behaviour. The expected effect of the VAT increase on sports practice differs between age groups and income. There is a majority of voters from almost all parties in favour of a VAT exemption, except for VVD members.
