The global trend towards mandatory e-invoicing is accelerating as governments recognize the benefits of digitization, driven by the need to combat tax evasion through real-time transactional reporting. Germany’s mandate focuses solely on digitization without government validation of invoices, but it will need to change to comply with ViDA and DRR before the European Commission’s deadline of 1 July 2030. The draft letter from the Federal German Ministry of Finance provides guidance on timelines, exemptions, and formats for electronic invoices, with deadlines for businesses to receive and issue electronic invoices.
