The Belgian Federal Public Service Finance has issued new guidelines for the upcoming mandatory B2B e-Invoicing requirement, effective from January 1, 2026. This directive will require all business-to-business transactions to use structured electronic invoices, following the EN 16931 format and Peppol-BIS standard. The scope includes nearly all transactions between Belgian VAT-registered companies, with exceptions for B2C transactions. Technical rules ensure the authenticity, integrity, and readability of e-Invoices, while international transactions require mutual agreement for electronic invoicing. The legislation is awaiting approval from the European Commission and is expected to be fully adopted by January 1, 2026.
