In June, over 100 million e-way bills were generated for the shipment of goods within and across states, indicating strong manufacturing activity. This is the fourth time that e-way bill generation has crossed the 100-million mark. The high e-way bill generation is consistent with buoyant demand conditions and improved freight activity in June, as indicated by the HSBC India manufacturing purchasing managers’ index and Indian Railways’ freight loading. However, auto sales remained sluggish due to heatwave conditions and a delay in monsoon.
