The GST Council is expected to consider several measures at its upcoming meeting on June 22, which will set the tone for broader tax reforms in the new government’s first full budget. These measures may include a conditional waiver of interest or penalty on tax notices issued between 2017 and 2020, as well as other changes to reduce tax litigation and improve ease of doing business. The proposed changes are likely to bring relief to various sectors facing large tax demands, such as online gaming, insurance companies, banks, non-banking financial companies, airlines, and shipping companies. Additionally, there is a proposal to allow authorised personnel to represent companies in cases where summonses have been issued to key management.
