Certain companies with import transactions in Turkiye will soon be required to have inspection reports prepared by authorized customs brokers. Amendments introduced in January 2024 introduced three new types of retrospective import inspections that must be carried out by authorized customs brokers. These inspections include determining whether products declared as metal scrap were converted into other products, confirming if products declared as out-of-scope of certain trade policy measures are actually covered by the measures, and checking if goods subject to authorization/documentation are suitable for their intended use. Companies with import transactions falling under these areas of detection must have an inspection report prepared by an authorized customs broker. The new Guideline and imminent Communiqué will trigger the need for affected companies to engage authorized customs brokers to produce the requisite inspection reports.
