The Dutch State Secretary for Finance presented the findings of a study on applying a reduced VAT rate to household appliance repair services to the House of Representatives. The investigation was in response to a motion from several MPs. Currently, the Netherlands does not apply the reduced VAT rate to such services, but it is permitted under the VAT Rates Directive. The Deputy Minister suggested that other measures should be considered first, as recent research indicates that applying the reduced VAT rate may not be efficient. The decision on whether to pursue this change will be left to the new cabinet.
