Global digitization is impacting American companies, even though electronic invoicing is not mandatory in the US. Initiatives in 2022 aimed to create a virtual network for exchanging electronic invoices among companies, with the goal of establishing an operational B2B invoice exchange framework for the American market by 2023. The Business Payments Coalition led a pilot program involving over 600 entities, resulting in the formation of the Digital Business Networks Alliance (DBNAlliance), which supervises the electronic document exchange network. In the US, eInvoicing is not mandatory at the federal or state level for both B2B and B2G relationships. The required eInvoice format is XML-based UBL or X12 EDI, and the archiving requirement is a storage period of 7 years from the filing of the tax return.
