The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) annual report 2023 shows that at the end of 2023, a total of 1,927 active investigations were ongoing, with a total estimated damage to the EU budget of €19.2 billion, of which 59 percent (€11.5 billion) was related to cross-border VAT fraud.
