- On 13 March 2024, the European Parliament adopted its first reading position on the proposal from the European Commission to repeal and significantly reform the EU Customs Code.
- The reform aims to address the challenges posed by the growth in e-commerce and the increase in product standards and sanctions in the EU.
- The proposal focuses on three key areas: e-commerce, trusted partners, and digital solutions.
- It includes requirements for web platforms to submit information to EU customs authorities, a simplified procedure for trusted partners, and the establishment of a central IT platform for streamlined communications.
- The adopted position will be further reviewed by the new EU Parliament after the European elections in June 2024.
