On March 4th 2024, the ratification by the Italian Republic of the Additional Protocol to the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (CMR) concerning the Electronic Consignment Note was finally definitively approved.
The ratification represents an important step towards the digitization of transport documents and constitutes an opportunity for companies to streamline their operations by reducing the use of paper documentation and to be able to monitor the status of transportation supporting documents in real time and remotely.
Through the “e-CMR Italy” project, promoted by Unioncamere and Uniontrasporti and carried out between 2022 and 2023, it was possible to test the functioning of e-CMR in the field, evaluate its benefits and develop some guidelines to overcome possible critical elements. Today, it becomes essential to carry out further training and dissemination activities to ensure rapid and widespread adoption by Italian companies.
