The European Commission has published a report summarizing the effects of Directive 2014/55/EU on electronic invoicing in public procurement. The report was mandated by the directive and involved consultations with various stakeholders.
The report found that the directive has successfully removed trade barriers and improved interoperability in eInvoicing for public procurement. It led to the creation and widespread adoption of a single European standard for eInvoicing. However, full adoption of eInvoicing was achieved only in some countries with additional regulations or high digital maturity.
While the directive has had a positive impact on the proliferation of eInvoicing, the report highlights the need for further efforts to encourage wider adoption and address remaining interoperability challenges.
