The Italian plastic tax on manufactured products for single use (MACSI) will be enforced by July 2024 as per the Italian Budget Law for 2024. The tax aims to reduce the production and use of single-use plastics and promote less harmful alternatives. It applies to plastic products used for containment, protection, manipulation, or delivery of goods or foodstuffs, excluding compostable, medical, and recycled plastic products. The tax applies to products manufactured in Italy and those imported into Italy. Registration, submission of tax returns, and payment of 0.45 EUR per KG of plastic are required. Tax refunds are available under certain conditions.
