From 1 January 2026, VAT-registered taxpayers in Belgium must use structured e-invoices. Belgian taxpayers must issue and receive e-invoices, while foreign taxpayers with a VAT-registration in Belgium must receive e-invoices. The default system will be the Peppol 4-corner model, but alternative systems meeting the European Standard can be used with mutual agreement. Belgium is awaiting a derogatory decision from the EU Commission to be exempted from certain articles of the EU VAT Directive, similar to exemptions granted to Poland, Romania, and Germany.
