The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council has extended the deadline for tax officials to demand and recover tax dues from businesses for the financial years 2019 (FY19) and 2020 (FY20). This move will allow additional time to central and state tax authorities to address backlogs in tax recovery.
For FY19 dues, tax officials now have until the end of April 2024, while for dues of FY20, the deadline has been extended to the end of August next year, said an order from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), citing the GST Council’s decision.
