Regulation 2023/956 of the European Union, which established the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (‘CBAM’), entered into force on 17 May 2023. This new EU law aims to prevent carbon leakage. Companies operating inCO2-intensive industries should be discouraged from relocating their activities to countries outside the EU where climate protection requirements are less stringent.
