Romania is still in last place in the European Union in terms of VAT collection, with a collection deficit of 36.7% in 2021, according to the data presented now, well above the average at the level of the EU bloc. Although it slightly decreased in percentage terms, the collection deficit in nominal terms deepened to almost 9 billion euros, Romania recording the third largest gap in the EU.
