- The European Commission has proposed a modernization of VAT rules within the EU, known as ‘ViDA’. This includes measures to make certain platforms responsible for VAT in the short-term tourist accommodation rental and passenger transport sectors, as well as expanding the one-stop shop model and reverse charge mechanism.
- The small business scheme will also be adjusted in 2025, allowing entrepreneurs with a limited turnover to use a VAT exemption in other EU member states.
- However, this will come with administrative obligations and turnover thresholds set by each member state. The ViDA proposals are subject to change and will require unanimous approval by all member states to become law.
