In January 2023, a case involving tax fraud and international boat sales was decided by the Vestre Landsret court in Denmark. The defendant, referred to as T, was the main shareholder and daily manager of a company. T was accused of intentionally evading VAT in four instances by selling boats, including VAT, without reporting the sales tax, resulting in a total tax evasion of DKK 2,089,841. T was acquitted for one of the instances but convicted for the other three. In one instance, T falsely declared a VAT of 0 DKK, leading to a revision by an auditor. T failed to submit the revised information to the tax authorities. The court reduced T’s prison sentence to six months, with a conditional sentence and imposed a fine of DKK 725,000, considering the lengthy legal process.
