- HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has announced a phased approach for businesses transitioning from the Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) to the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) for exports.
- The first phase will support selected high-volume declarants to move to CDS by 30 November 2023, while the second stage will see all other businesses move to CDS by 30 March 2024.
- This approach will enable HMRC and delivery partners to undertake additional performance analysis while businesses migrate, and better support export declarants during the transition.
- Declarants who can move to CDS by 30 November 2023 will be contacted by HMRC or their software developer in September.
- The AFSS, BIFA, and AICES have expressed their support for the revised timescales and stakeholder engagement.
- More information about using CDS is available on GOV.UK.
