The European Commission has granted its consent to Romania’s proposal of making B2B domestic electronic invoicing mandatory. The initially contemplated approach, which focused on specific high-risk products and gradual implementation, has been abandoned in favor of a broader application encompassing all businesses. The Romanian strategy, which currently demands pre-clearance, will eliminate this requirement starting from January 1, 2026, in accordance with the VIDA requirements set for 2028. The intention is to commence the compulsory e-invoicing, most probably beginning on January 1, 2024.
