The French General Directorate of Public Finance Aug. 2 opened a consultation on a simplified VAT regime for foodstuffs, food production, and agricultural production, for operations taking place on or after Jan. 1. The draft rules include measures that would: 1) apply a 5.5 percent VAT rate on foodstuffs for human consumption and products used in their manufacture; 2) apply a 5.5 percent VAT rate on specific products used in the food production chain; 3) apply a 5.5 percent VAT rate on foodstuffs for animals and products used in their manufacture, and a 10 percent VAT rate for specific products …
