It’s been five years since the Wayfair decision that enabled states to extend their sales tax collection obligations to sellers based exclusively on economic nexus. Constant evolution reigns and sales tax remains complicated. To ensure compliance with economic nexus laws, states must simplify their approaches to sales tax so that businesses can reasonably meet the standards being imposed. Additionally, technology, along with regulatory expertise, will continue to play an important role for businesses of any size to stay ahead of the changing tax landscape.
To talk through the current state of sales tax compliance, Charles Maniace, VP of regulatory analysis and design at Sovos, will be presenting Wayfair @ 5: Risks and Opportunities. This session will cover:
- What courts and Congress have been saying
- How states are attempting to simplify tax compliance for sellers
- What businesses can do ease the burden of sales tax compliance
