- Belgium’s finance minister plans to introduce electronic invoicing and a reporting system as part of the European Commission’s ‘VAT in the Digital Age’ proposal.
- The preliminary draft law requires structured electronic invoices to be issued in a structured format, such as XML, through the PEPPOL network.
- All VAT taxpayers in Belgium will be obliged to use electronic invoices, phased in based on turnover from July 2024 to January 2028.
- The draft law focuses on mandatory B2B e-invoicing and proposals for electronic reporting are expected.
- The feasibility of introducing electronic invoicing within the set timing is uncertain.
