Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Finance has introduced a new “special contribution” on specified goods and services to mobilize more resources. The contribution applies to items such as cigarettes, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, imported vehicles, perfumes, cosmetics, mobile prepaid services, and private television subscriptions. The special contribution is also levied on sales of land at a rate of 1%. Law No. 009-2023/ALT was promulgated by Decree No. 2023-0791/PRES-TRANS on June 30, 2023.
