- Spain will assume the Presidency of the European Union from July 1 to December 31, 2023.
- The Spanish Presidency has identified four priorities for its term:
- Reindustrializing the EU and ensuring its open strategic autonomy
- Advancing the green transition and environmental adaptation,
- Promoting greater social and economic justice, and
- Strengthening European unity.
- The Presidency aims to attract new companies and jobs to Europe while reducing foreign vulnerabilities and promoting the development of strategic industries and technologies.
- It will also work to accelerate the deployment of renewable energies, reduce waste and microplastics, and establish minimum and common standards on corporate taxation.
- Additionally, the Spanish Presidency will advocate for a greater deepening of the internal market, completion of the banking union and the capital markets union, and coordinated support for neighbouring states.
