The Government hopes only “tiny” amounts of VAT will be paid from the deposit return scheme (DRS) for drinks containers, saying this would indicate the scheme’s success.
That was the message from Victoria Atkins, Treasury financial secretary, in a parliamentary debate on how VAT interacts with the DRS, which is due to start in Scotland in March 2024 and the following year elsewhere in the UK.
