Debt counseling can only take place exempt from VAT if the service provider does not strive for profit, according to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court has ruled in three judgments on two VAT exemptions for institutions for general (company) social work and institutions that are engaged in certain forms of debt assistance. The relevant cases pertain to VAT entrepreneurs who provide services in the field of budget management, budget guidance and budget advice.
