Manipur will start levying Value Added Tax (VAT) on alcoholic beverages as the state government is moving step by step to legalize sales of liquor.
The Manipur government had decided to partially lift the prohibition on the sale and consumption of liquor in the state. Manipur was declared a dry state in 1991 after the enactment of the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act, 1991.
