On 24 March 2023, the Portuguese government presented a package of new measures that are being implemented to mitigate the increased cost of living in Portugal. The main tax measure is the temporary application of a 0% VAT rate on a basket of essential food products. The 0% VAT rate applies for 6 months from April to October 2023.
