Is the Northern Ireland Protocol, a thorn in the side of the European economy since Brexit, any closer to resolution? The UK and the EU have come to a new agreement to address trade and border issues. Originally designed to avoid a hard border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, the Protocol has caused a lot of tension between both economies.
The new agreement, named “The Windsor Framework,” establishes a new system for the flow of goods between Northern Ireland and Great Britain, defines the status of Northern Ireland with respect to VAT and domestic subsidies, and also outlines the future governance of the agreement.
