The EU currently provides, free of charge, two different electronic services for checking tax registration numbers and VAT registration numbers issued by a country within the EU:
- TIN’s online check to check the tax registration number of natural persons. The service can only check that the current tax registration number is correctly structured, i.e. that it has a valid structure with the correct number of digits and characters.
- VIES to check VAT registration numbers. In the service, information can be retrieved on whether the registration number is valid and who holds it.
