Currently, tourists visiting Israel are exempt from paying the 17-percent tax on services in the sector, spanning from hotels to car rentals, which causes the country to lose an estimated $500 million yearly. Tourism organizations and hoteliers now fear that canceling the exemption will harm their ability to bring travelers to Israel.
