On 3 February 2023, the Minister of the Environment of the Democratic Republic of the Congo proposed an amendment to Environment Law No. 11/009 during a Council of Ministers meeting. The proposal, which was approved by the council, aims to bring the country’s legislation in line with the Paris Climate Agreement and enhance domestic revenue collection. This includes the implementation of a carbon tax, a carbon market regulatory authority, and a national environmental contribution.
