Taking effect as of 1 May 2023, VAT fines will be increased from a range of 10% to 50% to a range of 20% to 100% in cases where a VAT payer unreasonably reduces the estimated amount payable to the authorities, or unreasonably increases the estimated amount of VAT refundable. Failure to pay VAT to the Lithuanian authorities can also lead to such fines.
