The GST council meeting provided a clear definition for SUVs that will attract the highest cess of 22% over and above the GST rates. This clarification comes after auto manufacturers were confused over the rates at which bigger SUVs need to be taxed through the application of cess. Previously, it was at 15% for hybrids, 20% for certain SUVs, and 22% for some.
