Athletes returning from international sports events with commemorative cups and statuettes may receive a letter with a request for payment of duty and VAT, even if these items have no material value, but only symbolic and sentimental value, writes legal adviser Michał Kosiarski. He adds that it can be defended against, but it takes time and effort.
