Evasion of VAT by e-commerce
sellers continues to be a significant
issue for tax authorities. This
happens via sellers using “stolen”
VAT numbers or just collecting VAT
from their customer and then
disappearing without paying it to
the tax authority. The UK is now
looking at implementing a split
payment regime to combat this
fraud.
